Monday & Thursday 10 a.m.--8:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday 10 a.m.--5 p.m.

Closed Sunday.

Open Labor Day 10 a.m.--4 p.m.

Children's Programs--and Adults too

Surf & Sand Smarts & the Firetruck!

Wednesdays 3:30 p.m.

Learn about rip tides, beach safety, and sun protection.  Then climb aboard one of the Ocean Isle Beach firetrucks and sea rescue vehicles.   A make-and-take craft is included.  Program is free with Museum admission or membership.   
Megabites

Thursdays 3:30 p.m.

Dig for shark teeth and then identify the type of shark.  Examine the Museum’s large collection of shark jaws.  Take home the shark tooth that you find.  Program is free with Museum admission or membership.  Sponsored by The Lemon Shark Lemonade Stand.
  
Touch Tank Feeding & Shell ID 
Fridays 3:30 p.m. 

         

   

Children and adults may help our docents and staff feed the live sea stars, hermit crabs, fish, anemones, and urchins in the touch tank. Free with Museum admission or membership.

Special Programs
Snakes Alive!

Thursdays at 7 p.m.

See local and exotic species of snakes and other reptiles at Snakes Alive.  Matthew Bookout educates Museum visitors about how snakes are beneficial to our environment, venomous and non-venomous snakes, egg-layers and livebearers, and offers the opportunity to observe and touch some of these magnificent reptiles. Free with Museum admission or membership.

 

2008 Summer Concerts

 

The Ocean Isle Property Owners Association acknowledges with  appreciation Virginia & Odell Williamson, Ocean Isle Palms, and the Museum of Coastal Carolina for the use of the concert site and parking lots.  Sponsors are OIPOA, Brunswick County Parks & Recreation, and the Town of Ocean Isle Beach.

 

Concerts are free!  No raindates or rain locations!  Bring beach chairs and dancing shoes!

 

The OIPOA accepts non-perishable food items and/or cash donations on concert evenings to benefit A Second Helping--Shallotte Area Food Pantry.  Thank you for helping those less fortunate in Brunswick County with your donations.

Story hour and make & take craft.

Special Programs
Bird Walk

Wednesday, Sept 10 at 6:30 p.m.

             

Registration required in advance.  Call the Museum at 910.579.1016 to register.  Meet at Ingram Planetarium at 6:30 and take a short drive to bird rookery.  Wear comfortable shoes & repellent, bring bottle water, binoculars, and chair.  Telescope provided.  Walk 1/4 mile. $10 non-members, $5 members, MOCC & IP volunteers free.

Take a Child Outside Week

Saturday, Sept 20 at 10:30 a.m.

                  

Join us at the Museum for a guided outside beach activity.  Wear comfortable shoes and bring bottled water.  Go to www.takeachildoutside.org for more information on this and to make a pledge to take your child outside.

 

Thirteen Ghosts

of the Silver Coast

Saturday, Oct 25 at Noon

 

Older kids join us for local ghost stories, lore, and legends presented by Will Smith.  Walk to an area on the beach with reported ghostly sightings.  Older kids, adults, and brave souls welcome.  Be sure to bring your ghost stories to share.

America Recycles Day

Saturday, Nov 15 at 11 a.m.

                  

 

Did you know it takes a common glass jar 1,000,000 years to decompose in a landfill? Aluminum cans take 200-500 years.  Kids, you can make an impact and help the environment!  Enjoy recycled crafting and get helpful hints, tips, and local guidelines for recycling.

Holiday Activities

Saturdays from November 28--December 27

Independent make & take crafts celebrating Christmas, Hanukah, & Kwanza.  

Write a letter to Santa and put in our North Pole mail box before December 20.
