Family Programs Through December 26, 2009

Museum Open Fridays & Saturdays  10--4.

The Museum will also be open on Dec 28-30.

Closed December 25 & January 1.

Preschoolers Day Out

 

Preschoolers, bring your favorite adult and help our staff feed the sea stars, hermit crabs, whelks, fish, and other tidal animals in the touch tank.

 

 Make & Take Crafts

The Museum is a great place for family activities.  Informal and independent activities include scavenger hunts and I Spy for different age levels.  Be sure to get a beach scavenger hunt to enjoy after you leave the Museum. 

In late November and December, make holiday crafts celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa.  Write a letter to Santa and put it in our North Pole mail box by December 18 to get a response.

Informal Touch Tank Feeding

All ages will enjoy watching our staff and volunteers feeding the touch tank animals.

Backyard Bird Count

The Great Backyard Bird Count is February 12-15.  Do you have 15 minutes a day for four days?  Spend them in your own backyard counting birds for a national registry.  Join us at the Museum to learn about this program.

Perigean Spring Tide

Learn about the perigean spring tide and go for a nature walk on the beach (weather permitting.)

Wind

Learn about coastal wind during this very windy month.  Decorate a wooden sailboat to tak home and fly a kite on the beach (weather permitting.)

Family Day

Multi-generational family event with low-cost and free activities for the entire family in parking area.  Pay-what-you-can admission to the Museum.  Light lunch fare for purchase.  Live music by Mark Roberts and Breeze.

What are the most abundant and important living organisms in the ocean?  Learn about these creatures under a microscope and projector.

2010 Bruce Porter Lecture Series 

 

The  lecture series is held the second Tuesday of the month from September through May except for December.  The Museum opens at 6:30 for your self-guided tour of the Museum before the lecture begins at 7 p.m.  Lectures usually last about an hour and light refreshments are served after the lecture.
